November 2006 issue

Dreams & Swords
All books are either dreams or swords,
You can cut, or you can drug, with words.

- Amy Lowell (Sword Blades and Poppy Seeds)

It's November and that means turkey. If you're interested in learning more about the First (American) Thanksgiving, you may want to read the November 2005 Dreams & Swords column. You also can check out a few of the Thanksgiving-related resources in the collection, such as:

Home for the Holidays: the History of Thanksgiving (video) by the History Channel.
We Gather Together : the Story of Thanksgiving by Ralph and Adelin Linton.

Or perhaps you would like to read The Thanksgiving Visitor by Truman Capote.

Once we all return from stuffing ourselves sick over the Thanksgiving holiday, it will be a mad, mad dash to the end of the semester. We'll be letting you know more specifics, but just to give you early notice, the Library will be extending its hours during final exams. Typically, we extend evening hours to 11:30 on weeknights when there is a final exam scheduled for the following day. The weekend that falls at final exams also offers extended hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday and 5:00 - 11:30 on Sunday. And since it was such a big hit last year, we'll be serving refreshments (coffee, hot cider, snacks) on most of these final exam nights.
