The Huntingdon and AWAC Model United Nations Team:

In model United Nations simulations, student delegates research and then represent a country in international committees and plenary legislative forums.  They take positions on legal and moral issues, form coalitions, engage in parliamentary manoevers, conduct diplomacy and pass resolutions.  Debates are based on the issues topical to each year.

Emily White established a new Facebook page in April 2008 for the Model United Nations Team at Huntingdon.   The team enjoyed a successful trip to New York, staying ain a hotel in Times square, and commuting between committees and panels in the hotel and across midtown at the actual United Nations on the east river.

The hardest task was not in fact the preparation to represent Turkmenistan -- but the fundraising for the flights and hotel.  They were grateful for donations from many individual members of AWAC, in addition to Dean Fedler and others from the Huntingdon community.

Several previous Huntingdon College students in the early 2000s who had high school MUN experience and were interested in establishing Model UN were Samantha Mosier, James Robinson. and Margaret Enfinger.  Samantha proceeded to an MA program at AUM, then a PhD program in public policy at Colorado State.  James went on to medical school, and Margaret went on to a Master's degree at the Diplomatic School of Spain, then a law degree at Alabama.   MUN seems to be compatible with brain power!  It is hoped others will wish to maintain the team now that it is created.
