Additional Notes:
Draft Report on 2004 Great Decisions Program: Visiting speakers from Saudi Arabia provided a highlight of our Great Decisions program held at Huntingdon College for high school students in January through April this year. Mr. Vaughan Fitzpatrick (Saudi Chambers of Commerce) introduced Ms. Samar Fatany (Radio Jeddah) and Mr. Omar A. Bahlaiwa (Saudi Committee on Development of International Trade.) on March 1 for a Diversity in Islam roundtable, and for several other discussions held at Huntingdon and First United Methodist Church. Dr. Robert Wendzel, of Air War College kicked off our 2004 series with a discussion of The Media and Foreign Policy, followed by Dr. Grant Hammond, of Air War College on The Philippines . Dr. Jeremy Lewis, of Huntingdon College presented on historical and contemnporary issues between The US & Europe. Amb. Earl St. Aubin Scarlett, US Department of State, led our discussion on the modern concept of Public Diplomacy. Dr. Hammond led us again on the rather optimistic topic of Reform in the Middle East. Col. Mike Ritz, USAF Counter Proliferation Center, won the multimedia prize for his illustrated lecture on Weapons of Mass Destruction. Although student attendance was not quite so strong as last year's, Gant Rawls (Booker T. Washington HS) must be mentioned in dispatches for his well informed and critical thinking in every seminar.
Past speakers' notes, for 2003: "The Great Decisions Program conducted at Huntingdon College by AWAC board members Jeremy Lewis and Grant Hammond, wound up a successful run on March 17. Students from seven local area high schools participated in in-depth discussions of foreign policy issues." -- Gen. Charles Cleveland. Attendance
