The cajun meets Karl
Sam Schjott's field trip in summer '06 took him to the White House -- where Karl Rove, President Bush's election consultant, was honoured to meet him.
 
  • Montgomery, AL:
  • Federal court, 11th Circuit Court of appeals.
  • We observed the court room of Chief Judge Harold Albritton.
  • Federal district court.
  • We observed a pathbreaking sexual harrassment trial.
  • District court, Montgomery County
  • We have repeated observed the court room of Judge Lucie McLemore.  In March 2006, for instance, we observed criminal preliminary hearings day, including charges of loan fraud, attempted murder of a police officer, trafficking in drugs, domestic violence and robbery.  On previous visits we observed arbritration hearings, criminal docket day and civil docket day.
  • Governor's Office, State House.
  • We have visited Governors [e.g. Fob James (R), & Don Siegelman (D)] for briefings with their staffs.
  • Legislature and committee hearings.
  • We have observed House and Senate, as well as committee hearings of the Education Ways and Means Committee.
  • Maxwell AFB.
  • We have visited for briefings on world affairs.
  • Museum of Fine Arts
  • visiting exhibits, e.g. of civil rights artwork.
  • Alabama World Affairs Council
  • we participate monthly in speaker panel meetings.
  • Elsewhere in Alabama:

  • We visited the Conference on Women in Politics.
  • District of Columbia, (Washington DC):
  • We have participated in the World Affairs Councils of America, conferences adjacent to the White House, involving ambassadors from many countries.  We have run the conference web site.
  • Georgia:
  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt museum, Warm Springs, Georgia [attractions]
  • We explored the museum and buildings, then the springs.
  • Jimmy Carter Museum & Library, downtown Atlanta, GA.
  • We have visited in conjunction with the APSA convention.
  • Georgia Political Science Association Conference.
  • Usually held in February at Calloway Gardens or Savannah /Hilton Head.
