2. Governors of Alabama
William Wyatt Bibb (D)
William Wyatt Bibb was born in Virginia. He served in the legislature
before he became governor of our state. Bibb was a democrat, and
started his term as governor in 1819. Bibb only served for one year,
due to a hard fall off his horse. He was already very sick with kidney
failures and tuberculosis. Bibb never really recovered from the fall,
and spent the last year of his life in constant pain. He never lived
to see Cahaba as the state capital. Bibb died on July 20, 1820, at
the age of thirty-nine. I believe that Bibb's biggest accomplishment
was being the first governor of our state, and being able to get our state
organized.

was being a successful governor. He was said to be "a man of exceptional

affairs. He was interested in scientific research, and even invented
