C'etait un Rendezvous, by Claude Lelouch. (Taster cut) 3 minute exerpt of short 10 minute short, cinema verite style where director drives his automatic Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 illegally fast through early-morning Paris to a rendez-vous with a blonde female on steps of Sacre-Coeur. Sound track is from the director's manual-transmission Porsche or Ferrari GT. Making of, shot 30 years later with director, holding conversation in matching Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9. He couldn't stop, even for a red light, because of the short film reel. Lacking a stabilized camera, he had to rely on the suspension -- and keep moving. He admits when confronted with a truck, it was madness, and he had to attack again (including a one-way street) to catch up on lost time. He arrives in the same (early morning) light. C'était PAS un RENDEZ VOUS à PARIS / REMAKE de LELOUCH satirical remake, with female chattering, driving out to suburban airport Un homme et Une Femme (1966), A Man and A Woman, by Claude Lelouch. Excerpt on YouTube Landmark film, considered Lelouch's finest. Samba Saravah, from sound track, became very popular. (The song is by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes, legendary Brazilian poet and diplomat)\ François Truffaut (postwar critic of French cinema, argued for the auteur theory in which the director -- not just the screenwriter -- is the active author of the film; then implemented the theory to great effect, encouraging improvised acting). Les Quatre Cents Coups (1959), The 400 Blows, autobiographical story of his tough, unloved childhood. I wish I had seen this as a student; often considered his greatest. Jules et Jim (1962) a love triangle with two guys, another one I read about later. La Mariée était en noir (1968), The Bride Wore Black, with Jeanne Moreau in the title role of a revenge film. Perhaps the greatest femme fatale of French cinema. I found this one very striking. L'Histoire d'Adèle H. (1975), The Story of Adele H., tale of the daughter of Victor Hugo. Considered one of his best. L'Argent de poche (1976) Small Change, delightful film shot gently from child's point of view. Jacques Tati Trafic (1971) featuring Msr. Hulot, mime comedy film, with sound effects and fragmentary dialogue crash ballet, with good sound track, 4.5' another version, includes crash ballet my favorite windshield wiper scenes La mort de Jacques Tati, obituary of Tati, TV news (1982), lovely French accent, from INA.FR channel. 3.5' Erich Rohmer Pauline à la plage (1983), Pauline at the Beach, (Trailer)Trailer 2 (1080p res). Romantic summer beach comedy of various couplings, in which 15 year old girl is so much more mature than her older sister and boyfriends. Won multiple awards. Jean-Charles Tacchella Cousin, cousine (1975), French language romantic comedy. Cousins-by-marriage pretend to have an affair (then have a real one) when they discover that their spouses have been unfaithful. Actors Marie-Christine Barrault, Victor Lanoux and Marie-France Pisier. Won multiple awards. [Later remade as the American, Cousins.] YouTube: so far, searches only turn up home-made videos by cousins.
